What Hit the Table: September 2026

2026-10-03

This was a month where I got to travel to Dallas and see some of my favorite people. The people that I have formed friendships with over the course of teaching and learning games.

September 2026 in numbers: 32 plays of 10 different games across 17 days of gaming. First time at the table: Flip 7: With A Vengeance, Night at the Zoo, Shallow Sea, Tally Up, Toy Battle and Wingspan Asia.

SPACE BASE Played 14 times with 2 to 4 players. As you can see the all of this was on Board Game Arena - Wins: Norman 12, BGA - 3, BGA - 2. All online. Norman's rating: 8.4/10. In case you did not know... I love Space Base.

FLIP 7: WITH A VENGEANCE Played 5 times with 3 to 4 players. Again Board Game Arena. Wins: Norman 3, BGA - 2. All online. A first play. This has so much "take that"... I love me some "take that."

PONDSCAPE Played 5 times with 2 to 3 players. Wins: Norman 4, BGA - 1. All online. Norman's rating: 7.5/10. Not sure what it is with Pondscape. I find this more fun than Castle Combo.

HUTAN: LIFE IN THE RAINFOREST Played twice with 2 players. Wins: Norman 2. All online. Norman's rating: 7.8/10. This is such a nice looking game and it has so much going on. Love it.

MARKET FRESH Played once with 4 players. Wins: W. Stone. Norman's rating: 7/10. A play in Dallas. With the Stones and Suttons. What is not to like??

NIGHT AT THE ZOO Played once with 3 players. Wins: W. Stone. A first play. Norman's rating: 7.9/10. (From the session notes: This was all our first time playing and all agree it is a really fun game.) I can't remember if this was the first game we played early Saturday morning or the second. There were breakfast tacos, and a lot of fun.

SHALLOW SEA Played once with 3 players. Wins: T. Stone. A first play. Norman's rating: 8/10. (From the session notes: This is moving up the personal preference chart after a single play. I thought the hype was a bit much but playing with the Stones was great.) Another first thing in the morning game!! I can play games with the Stones at any hour.

TALLY UP Played once with 4 players. Wins: Norman. Played online. A first play.

TOY BATTLE Played once with 2 players. Wins: Jon Theys. A first play. Jon Theys introduced me to this one and it was fun. I think we played twice but to be sure I only logged one play.

WINGSPAN ASIA Played once with 2 players. Wins: Julie. A first play. Norman's rating: 8/10. Did not actually play this in September. I used the score sheet that was from a game that Julie and I played last year to test the scan in a sheet functionality LOL.

More of the same to come... Then in November all kinds of game I promise.

About this shelf

Hi, I'm Norman — this is my personal board game collection tracker: every game I own, every session I've logged, and honest reviews as I write them. I built it to keep an accurate record for myself, and to give other hobbyists something real to compare notes against.
