New Features
I keep telling myself I'm done tinkering with this thing and then a game night reminds me why I'm not. This round came out of two ordinary annoyances: not being able to remember a rule mid-game without someone pulling out their phone to search a forum, and typing a scorepad's worth of numbers into a form after everyone's already packed up and gone home.
So now there's a rules question box sitting right on every game's detail card. Type whatever's actually holding up the table, something like whether you can play an action card on someone else's turn, and it answers from what it knows about that specific game. The part I actually care about is that it's built to say when it's not sure, instead of answering smoothly and being wrong about it. That's the failure mode that would have made this useless. A game with a small, obscure printing or a pile of errata is exactly where I'd rather hear "check the rulebook" than get a confident guess.
The scorepad thing came out of pure laziness, honestly. There's a Scan Scorepad button now on the Log Session form, and instead of typing in who played and what everyone scored, you just photograph the actual sheet from the table. It reads off the names, the final numbers, and the winner if that's clear, and drops all of it into the form for you to check before saving. It skips anything it can't read confidently rather than making something up, which means occasionally you'll still fill in a name by hand, but that's a much shorter task than the whole roster.
And Tonight's Pick finally stopped looking like a die tumbling around a box, which never made much sense to me anyway. It's a slot machine reel now, which is closer to what the thing actually does, spins and lands. There's also a minimum rating filter next to the player count one, so on a night where I don't want to just get handed whatever fits five people, I can tell it to only land on something I'm actually excited about.
None of this is on the site yet as I write this. It's sitting in the files waiting on a deploy, the same as it always is at this stage, half real and half still just something I built at a desk. I'll believe it's finished the first time it actually saves me from an argument about whether that card can go on the opponent's turn.
